SCHOOL MEALS

School meals 2024-2025

In addition to our dining hall, we have an outdoor dining area, the Pod, and an additional indoor refreshment area, the Honley Café.

Refreshments are available during breaks in the Dining Hall and Pod (Years 7 to 9) and the Honley Café (Years 10 and 11). At lunchtime, refreshments and meals are available in the Dining Hall, Pod and the Honley Café, with priority access given by Year Group. Students may also eat their packed lunch in these areas or on the benches in the quad.

Students can purchase a wide variety of hot and cold options. A standard ‘meal deal’ is now £3.00 for a two-course meal, such as a hot meal or sandwich and a biscuit.  Please see the attached menus and prices for more information.

If your child receives free school meals, they are allocated £1.05 for breakfast (this does not carry over to break or lunch) and £3.00 for lunch. You also have the option to top up your child’s account via ParentPay for break time, or they are welcome to bring additional snacks from home.

We always encourage our students to bring refillable water bottles. This ensures they stay hydrated and plays a significant role in reducing single-use plastic, a cause we can all be proud to support.  Water bottles can be topped up from the water fountains in the dining hall and E-Block or from the water taps in the bathrooms (this is drinking water).  Your support in ensuring your child brings a water bottle is greatly appreciated.

Dietary Requirements

Initially, students with specific dietary requirements must bring a packed lunch so the catering team can arrange an appropriate meal plan. If your child has any dietary requirements, please don't hesitate to contact Mrs Webster (a.webster@honley.tlt.school) and she will liaise with the catering team on your behalf.

CASHLESS DINING

Payments to school are made through our online system, ParentPay. Here, you can add lunch funds, pay for school trips, and buy items such as calculators and revision guides.

No more hunting around for loose change in the morning or spending dinner money on the way to school. We run a cashless system, where funds are added in advance online by a parent/carer (or automatically in the case of free school meals). Students then 'pay' using a *finger biometric recognition system. It is not possible to pay with cash in the canteen.

Parents can log onto ParentPay to see what their child has purchased and set a daily spending limit. If your child receives free school meals, you can still access ParentPay to see their food choices and top up their account if needed.

Alternatively, payment may be made by PayPoint.

CONTACTING OUR FINANCE TEAM

If you have any questions about financial matters, including using ParentPay, Free School Meals, or making payments to the school by PayPoint, please contact our Finance Team by emailing finance@honley.tlt.school or phoning 01484 506484.

FREE SCHOOL MEALS

Parents/carers receiving certain benefits may be entitled to free school meals for their children. Students who are eligible receive a daily allowance to cover the cost of a lunch meal (£3.00 from September 2024) and breakfast before 8.35am (£1.05p from September 2024) in school. These allowances are automatically added to their ParentPay account, and the child will ‘pay’ for their meals like other students. Please note that if it is not used, the allowance does not accumulate.

Even if your child doesn’t want school meals, it is really important to register for them if your child is eligible. Our school can receive significant extra Pupil Premium funding for each registered student.

This extra funding can support your child's learning in many ways, such as contributing towards school trips, revision guides, and extra provisions to raise attainment.

Your application is anonymous; no one will know you have applied, and it will not affect any other benefits you claim.

To find out if you are eligible for free school meals, please visit the Kirklees website and complete their online application form by clicking the link below.
