WELCOME TO OUR YEAR 6 FAMILIES
Dear Year 6 Student (and your parents/carers)
Welcome to the Additionally Resourced Provision (ARP), and welcome to Honley High School. We’ve probably met you by now and you may know a bit about us.
To help you and your family make a smooth and stress-free move from your primary or middle school to Honley, we will provide you with a Transition Plan. This will cover a total of nine sessions which are made up of various activities both in your current school and here in the ARP at Honley.
You and your parents/carers will receive your Transition Plan either through the post or via email. This includes the dates, times and information about what will happen at each stage of the transition process. You can see an example of a Transition Plan at the bottom of this page.
Throughout the nine sessions, Mrs Wilde-Gray or another member of the ARP team will visit you and your school staff in primary/middle school twice. During the two visits, we will try to understand what you like and need to keep you happy, safe and able to access learning before you start your visits to Honley. After this, the fun part begins, and you will start spending time with us in our ARP!
Don’t panic! Your key worker or grown-up will be able to come with you for the first few times you visit. When you feel comfortable, you will then be able to stay for a while without them.
Each of your visits to Honley will be for a little longer so that by the end of the visits, you will stay throughout break and lunchtime.
Throughout your visits to us, we will look at a Provision plan so you will know where everything is. We will also follow a map of the whole school, and you will have lots of practice finding our way around.
You will also meet all of the team and other students within the Provision and learn how to read the timetable.
The Provision team need to learn all about you. To help us, you will be given an ‘About Me’ booklet so we can help you through everything at school.
You will also work through a booklet that will help you find out about the main school. This will include expected uniform, lesson timings, any equipment needed and help you to recognise members of staff in the main school such as Mrs Lord (our Head of School) and Heads of Year.
As well as the Transition Plan, you and your grown-ups will receive an Information Pack including information about the Provision, our staff team, how to receive help from outside agencies, transport and other social links to help with the transition to Honley ARP.
Of course, if you or your parents/carers have any questions at any point on your journey with us, please do ask.
We all look forward to seeing you soon!
