READING LEADERS
Reading Leaders is a peer mentoring programme that enables a team of Year 10 students to help younger students in Year 7 improve their reading skills and confidence.
Our Reading Leaders complete a full day of training from a Coram Beanstalk Reading Leader Trainer, which enables them to support their own Reading Partner on a one-to-one basis.
Reading Leaders and their Partners meet in the library once a week during form time. In these sessions, they will share books through reading together or to each other and book chat. This programme benefits the younger students by developing their reading, speaking and literacy skills, and the Reading Leaders by developing their leadership skills and sense of responsibility.
This is a fantastic opportunity for everyone involved and is a great way to instil confidence in students, giving them autonomy over their own learning and fostering the skills they will need to enjoy reading for pleasure and access the school curriculum.
Our Reading Leaders programme has proved to be very successful, with many students showing significant progress in their reading ages and graduating from the programme.
